Edit: This isn't a post about being too cheap to go OEM. It's specifically pointed towards anyone who has or uses an off brand charger.
Edit 2: people who comment saying you're an idiot for not going OEM aren't contributing. Some people may have bought a used computer that came with a non oem charger. Go whine somewhere else. The $80 price tag is why I'm so glad Apple has begun to move away from making the cords and bricks so that if one fails, you have to buy the whole thing. Usually the cord fails, not the brick. With the new macbooks, the brick is connected to the computer with a USB-C to USB-C connector.
So if that falls apart, all you need to buy is a new USB-C to USB-C cable. They're $29 from apple (which is pricey but still way better than $80), or I'm sure at this point you can buy them dirt cheap from a 3rd party that's still high quality. Hopefully they start shipping all their chargers with this configuration (not with USB-C of course) • • • • •. So you opened each charger, inspected its elements, verified electrical specs, measured and tested that it's working properly etc?
If you didn't you can't know if it's good or not. As you can see those chargers are not trivial things and for knockoffs to be so cheap there must be severe corner cutting, both in design and materials quality. First rule of building PC is don't skimp on power supply. It applies to laptops as well. To anyone who see two chargers and think they're the same because they look the same: don't be an idiot, buy original charger.
