I have Office for Mac 2016 installed on three Macs: the new Macbook, a 2011 iMac and now a brand new iMac. All applications are regularly freezing for no apparent reason. The coloured wheel just keeps spinning. Sometimes Word will snap out of it but when I try to do something afterwards it starts up again. The freeze then spreads to other apps, such as Adobe Acrobat Pro or native Apple apps. Outlook is also having the same problems. This had not really happened on my Macbook but was happening regularly on my 2011 iMac over the past week or so.

After Apple released the new OS X El Capitan on Wednesday, users streamed to a Microsoft support discussion forum to report that Office 2016 for Mac regularly crashed, crippling their productivity.

I therefore put it down to the ageing hardware on the iMac and purchased a brand new one at the weekend. However, from the get-go it has been doing exactly the same thing on the new iMac. Coincidentally, the same issue has occurred in my Macbook but only once or twice. All my apps are completely up to date, as are the versions of OSX. I have been very careful to check this. I cannot find any up to date information on the reasons for the freezes.

Can anyone help? Open Word > Preferences and take a snapshot of the File Locations dialog on your system. Post it here.

The dialog looks like this: Do you have an Office 365 subscription to Office 2016? If so, make sure you are connected to the Internet and that you are logged into the subscription. Finally, try running the Font Book app which is located in your Application folder. Validate all of your fonts.
